Eternal Rest for a former Associate at St. Dominic

20 12 2011

I know very little about Fr. Andre, who was an associate at St. Dominic from 1973-1980.  If people have some stories about his life, I would be interested in learning more about this brother priest.

Reverend Leonard J. Andre, a senior priest of the archdiocese, died early this morning at the age of 90. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:00pm on Thursday, December 22, 2011, at the Alexian Village Chapel in Milwaukee (see complete obituary printed below).  Visitation takes place at Alexian Village on Thursday, December 22, beginning at 2:00pm and continuing until time for the funeral liturgy.

Please remember Father Andre in your Masses and keep his friends and family close in prayer.

Born on November 22, 1921 in Plymouth, Wisconsin, Father Andre entered Saint Francis de Sales Seminary in 1956 and completed his priestly formation during the period of 1956-1961.  He was ordained to the priesthood on May 27, 1961 by the Most Reverend William E. Cousins, Archbishop of Milwaukee, at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Milwaukee.

Father’s priestly ministry began as an assistant at Immaculate Conception Parish, Milwaukee, on July 6, 1961.  He was appointed an assistant at St. Mary Parish, South Milwaukee, on August 18, 1965; an assistant at St. Leonard Parish, Muskego, on June 27, 1967; and as an associate pastor at St. Dominic Parish, Brookfield, on June 12, 1973. Father was appointed to his first pastorate on November 18, 1980, serving St. Mary Parish, Belgium.  He was appointed pastor at St. Boniface Parish, Germantown, on August 3, 1982, and served this faith community until his retirement from active ministry on June 30, 1992.

A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for Father Andre will be celebrated at 3:00pm  on Thursday, December 22, 2011, in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Alexian Village in Milwaukee (9301 North 76th Street). Priest friends and former colleagues are invited to concelebrate; please bring an alb and white stole.  Visitation also takes place at Alexian Village on Thursday afternoon, December 22, from two o’clock until time for the funeral liturgy.
